Last month the Finnish Defense Forces made live an online archive of 160,000 WWII era photographs.
Taken between 1939-1945, the photographs document all three conflicts that Finland was involved in during this time (the Winter War, Continuation War, and Lapland War). They include images like the above Finnish soldier with a pack reindeer, the aftermath of battles, and Hitler’s only visit to Finland.

Northern Europe during the Second World War is one of my favorite topics. You hardly hear anything of it in school.

The grave of Childeric was discovered by chance in 1653 in Tournai, close to the Church of Saint-Brice, Tournai, Belgium.

The burial was extremely rich and contained jewellery, two swords, a battle axe and a spear, gold and silver coins, buckles, a crystal ball, horse-harness and a hundred gold bees.

BEEEEEEEESSSSS!

I want a hundred little Merovingian gold bees to marvel at.

My haul from Spectrum Fantastic Art LIve II.

I had such a good time, It was amazing to see so many prolific contemporary fantasy/sci-fi artist in one place. The Kansas City Convention Center is also a classy joint, so there was a real air of professionalism on every side, which I liked.

I also got to see Omar Rayyan, Brom, David Peterson, Donato Giancola, Jeremy Bastian, AND Micheal Hussar (who signed my book for me!)

I didn’t even know that Peterson was going to be there. I hope he comes next year so I can have him sign my copy of MouseGuard.

I’m so proud that Kansas City hosts this event. Can’t wait until next year!
